Ireland are in the Euros!

Ireland is going to the Euro 2012’s! They have beaten Estonia 5-1 on aggregate. 4-0 away from home and 1-1 at home which is interesting. Why was Ireland so successful away from home? Is this a once off? No, in fact Ireland hasn’t lost an away game since the 12th of September 2007 against Czech Republic! For an Irish team that we have that’s pretty impressive but why isn’t our home matches as successful? There are many, possible geographical reasons for this. It could be the climate that they prefer sunnier weather then our rainy climate but this wouldn’t make much sense as Ireland has ta similar climate to the U.K. where most of our players play. It may be that in some of the poorer countries we play who can’t afford to have a good a pitch and stadium as us and we play better on a rough pitch. In my opinion the players don’t like the pressure of having 50,000 fans watching them in the stadium, they prefer to have their opponent’s fans putting their own team under pressure which makes sense. Well no matter if Ireland deserve to be at the Euros we are there and I know they will do us all proud!

Where did football/soccer start!?

The first sign of football was in china where they used to kick a head around violently with no real rules! More evidence was in Ancient Greece and Rome around 388-311 B.C. But many people get confused with the different kinds of football. There are many. There is American football, Gaelic football, Aussie rules, rugby and soccer are just some types. People argue over where the game soccer was first started. Countries like China, Italy, Brittan and even America say that they invented the game. Well I’ll say what I think and see if you agree. In my opinion a game that had similarities to soccer was played in china but that wasn’t the game we all play today. The same goes for Greece and Italy.  But Brittin made the game most similar to what we play today so in my opinion they invented soccer or what the game is based on today.  If you think different please tell me and tell me what you think! Thank you and please follow!

Ireland vs Estonia

Ireland will be traveling 2124km to face off with Estonia for a play-off to compete in the Euro 2012 championships. The first leg is in Tallinn in Estonia and the second leg will take place in Dublin. It seems like a great draw for Ireland but we have to remember it is also a great draw for Estonia.  My next update will talk all about Estonia with a bit of geography and a bit of football! Thank you and if you enjoy my posts please follow thank you!

Money in football

Players’ wages can be from 10 pounds a week to 250,000. The big question is where the money is and why is it there?
The three big countries in Europe where all the money is: England, Spain and Italy*. There is a star beside Italy as they have not kept up to England and Spain and there for falling back and are similar levels with the likes of Germany and France.
I am Irish and the biggest team in our country is Shamrock rovers. At this moment they are competing in the Europa league. The current yearly wage bill of Shamrock rovers is about €1,000,000. Compare that to Chelsea who has a bill of about €180,000,000.
How are smaller teams like shamrock rovers expected to compete in big European torments when they have this big a difference of money.
Of course there is a percentage of how the works together but what is that percentage? What would you rather have a not great bunch of players who work well or the best players in the world with amazing facilities not working well as a team?
I’ll let you decide so please comment as I’d love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!
